Hazel Ernestine Moss Putty, devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday January 10, 2021.
Born May 25, 1951 in Louisa, VA, she is the daughter of the late Rev. & Mrs. Ernest Moss of Spotsylvania, VA. At an early age, Hazel accepted Christ and joined the First New Hope Baptist Church, Partlow, VA. She was a graduate of Spotsylvania County Public Schools and was one of the first students of color to matriculate and graduate from Mary Washington College, now the University of Mary Washington, in Fredericksburg, VA. Mrs. Putty was an extraordinary math teacher and retired from Spotsylvania County Public Schools. She was a member of the Spotsylvania Education Association, Virginia Education Association, and the National Education Association.
Mrs. Putty loved her family and worked tirelessly to ensure their needs were met. She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, James H. Putty, Sr. and their three children: James H. Putty, II, Jessica M. Putty and Jonathan M. Putty (married to Michelle); a sister, Princess Moss; two aunts, Daphne Johnson and Carolyn Johnson; a niece and great niece, Robin-Renee Barskdale and Madelynn Barksdale, respectively; two sisters-n-law, Mary B. Putty and Emma J. Syrkes and a host of cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Erskine.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in The Sun Chapel at D. D. Watson, Louisa, with Rev. Gilbert T. Garcia will officiate. Interment will follow in the Moss Family Cemetery.
